Gyms to reopen from 25th July 2020 - The Countdown is on!
We can't wait to welcome people back to our gyms really soon! Thank you so much for everyone's patience and support during our closure. Following the Government guidance issued on Thursday 9th July, we are now delighted to confirm that the doors to our gyms across England will be reopening from 25th July 2020.
For members of our gyms in Scotland and Wales, we are currently waiting for further updates and our gyms will remain temporarily closed until then.
Our #SafeWithUs Commitment
Your wellbeing is our highest priority. As part of our #SafeWithUs commitment, we will be introducing several cleaning, hygiene and social distancing measures to keep you safe. Click on the video below to find out more, or read on to find out more about our new measures:
Cleaning and Hygiene
1. Let's #KeepItClean
- We have increased cleaning measures throughout the gym and our teams will assist you as and when you need it.
- We are working hard to ensure that our equipment and facilities are kept spotless at all times - you might even notice some of the gym team walking around with our new (fancy-schmancy!) electrostatic cleaning blasters!
2. Do Your Bit, Clean Your Kit
- We would really appreciate your help with wiping down your equipment once you have used it.
- You'll find sanitising spray and paper towels available for you to use at our Cleaning Stations.
- Let's work together to keep the gym really shiny and safe for each other.
3. On Your Marks... Ready... Set... Sanitise
- We have a hand sanitiser dispenser ready for you to use once you enter the gym and as you leave.
- While you workout with us, please wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
4. That's #CloseEnough
- We're definitely a friendly bunch here but always do your best to maintain a safe gap between you and other members as you move around the gym, while you workout, and when you use the changing rooms.
- Some equipment has been taken out of action, screen dividers have been added between some kit and we've installed floor markers, all to help you socially distance safely.
- No high fives allowed but a simple "Hello! How are you doing?" goes down very well.
5. Great Things Come To Those That Wait
- Please can we ask that you're patient with your gym team and other members, particularly where we need to maintain social distancing to keep everyone safe. If you're not happy with anything then let a member of the gym team know. Remember, it's been tough for everyone recently though, so let's look after each other as best we can.
Reopening Information for Our Members
- Look out for our emails over the coming days which will provide updates about your membership and details on our #SafeWithUs Commitment.
- All membership payments are still frozen and you won't be charged while your gym is closed.
- Your payments will not resume until we are open again. We will send you an email with everything you need to know on this before we reopen.
- We also understand that some members might not be ready to get back to the gym. We will therefore give you the opportunity to continue to freeze your membership for free, if you so wish.
Joining Our Gyms
We're now accepting new joiners at our gyms. Sign up for a membership now to be ready for when we reopen. Simply pay for your first month, then you won't pay anything until a month after we reopen. Joining fees may apply.

Coronavirus Information FAQs
Is The Gym open yet?
Following guidance issued from the government on Thursday 9th July 2020, our gyms in England will re-open from the 25th July 2020. We can’t wait to welcome you back to our gyms soon! You will receive email communications before the 25th to clearly detail what this means for you and inform you of your options when we re-open. For members of our gyms in Scotland and Wales, we are currently waiting for further updates and our gyms will remain temporarily closed until then.
Is the gym fully open, will all equipment be available to use?
Following the Government guidance issued on Thursday 9th July, we are now delighted to confirm that the doors to our gyms across England will be reopening from 25th July 2020. For members of our gyms in Scotland and Wales, we are currently waiting for further updates and our gyms will remain temporarily closed until then. As soon as we know a specific date for gyms that we are allowed to reopen, we will let you know via email, if you are a member, or social media and our website if you are keen to join us!
When we do reopen, to ensure that our members can maintain a safe distance from each other whilst working out, we will have moved some bits of kit around, and put others out of action. Whilst we will have less equipment and machines to use whilst we help maintain social distancing measures, we have done our best to keep as much kit in use as possible.
Is it safe for the gym to be open?
We are following the advice of national and international health services as well as that of Government in reopening our gyms and have put additional measures in place to ensure that our members and team members are safe within the gyms. This includes limited number of people in the gym at any one time, reduced equipment available to help ensure social distancing can be practiced, and providing additional cleaning and hygiene equipment for our members to use. By following the guidelines and adhering to our #SafeWithUs commitment, we are ensuring that our members are safe within our gyms.
When you reopen, how busy will The Gym be at certain times?
When we're open, you will be able to check out how busy your gym is through our app – live!
To ensure that you get the most out of your experience, we’d recommend that you come down to The Gym at a time that is less busy so that you will not need to queue for as long.
What extra measures will be put in place to keep members safe?
We have removed some pieces of equipment to help ensure that our members can train whilst adhering to social distancing measures. We will also limited the number of people allowed in the gym at any one time, as well as providing cleaning equipment and hand sanitiser for our members to use as they enter the gym, and to clean the equipment after use. To help us keep our members safe, we ask that you respect the social distancing rules, and regularly wash your hands.
Why have you taken away some of the equipment?
We’ve looked at our gyms in terms of layouts, most popular equipment and how we can ensure that we are able to offer as much of the kit as possible, whilst also ensuring the safety of our members whilst socially distancing. Taking these actions have allowed us to reopen and keep the disruption to a minimum. This has included temporarily reducing the amount of equipment that we have available.
We have however tried to ensure to leave at least one piece of each kit, so hopefully this will only be a small inconvenience for now. If you are impacted by these changes, you are able to freeze your membership until we are able to safely restore the equipment but rest assured, we have tried to keep as much kit in use as possible.
Will classes still be running when you reopen?
We’ve looked at our gyms in terms of layouts, most popular equipment and how we can ensure that we are able to offer as much of the kit as possible, whilst also ensuring the safety of our members whilst socially distancing. Taking these actions have allowed us to reopen and keep the disruption to a minimum. This has included temporarily restricting our classes and 24/7 access. Whilst we are complying with social distancing measures, we have put our classes online and you can work out to one of these whilst in the gym (so long as you keep a safe distance from everyone else!). If you are impacted by these changes, you are able to freeze your membership until we are able to safely restore them.
Are you still going to be open 24/7?
We’ve looked at our gyms in terms of layouts, most popular equipment and how we can ensure that we are able to offer as much of the kit as possible, whilst also ensuring the safety of our members whilst socially distancing. Taking these actions have allowed us to reopen and keep the disruption to a minimum. This has included temporarily pausing our classes and 24/7 access. As such, when we reopen, we will have reduced hours.
This allows the majority of our members to access the facilities during the times that they normally train, it also enables us to carry out a nightly deep clean and ensure your gym is clean and safe for the following day.
The majority of our gyms will be open 6am - 10pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 8pm Saturday and Sunday.
Some gyms' opening hours differ. These gyms are listed in the FAQs - please check your gyms' opening hours before visiting to avoid disappointment.
If you are impacted by these changes, you will be able to freeze your membership until we are able to safely increase them, once we have a reopening date.
We appreciate this won’t be convenient for everyone, but hope to be back up and running 24/7 as soon as possible.
When you reopen, which gyms won't be open 6am - 10pm?
Whilst the majority of our gyms will reopen at temporarily reduced hours of 6am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 8pm Saturday to Sunday, a selection of gyms will have different opening hours. These are:
8am - 8pm Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
- Isle of Wight
- Leeds York Road
- Milton Keynes
- Birmingham Kingsheath
- Birmingham Digbeth
- Birmingham Kingsbury Road
- Southamtpton East
- West Croydon
The following gyms are also opening at the listed hours
- London Oxford Street - currently closed for refurbishment
- London Wembley Park - 6am - 10pm (M-F) / 8am - 10pm (S/S)
- Manchester Deansgate - 6am - 10pm (M-Th) / 6am - 9pm (F) / 8am - 8pm (S/S)

- London Charing Cross - 6am - 10pm (M-F) / 10am - 5pm (S/S)
I’m not ready to come back to The Gym, can I freeze my membership?
We understand that not everyone will be ready to come back to The Gym as soon as we reopen. As such, we are offering all our members 1-month free freeze once we reopen. You will simply need to go to your members area and freeze your membership here. You can unfreeze at any point, and extend it if you still don't feel ready for a small additional charge.
How much will I be charged when The Gym reopens?
When we closed our gyms on the 20th March, we made a commitment to all our members that any time that they had left on their most recent payment would go towards time in The Gym when we reopened, or be deducted from their next payment. What happens with your next payment largely depends on when we open, and when you last paid.
As a result of the closure, some members will not receive the full value from their last payment before we closed. We will compensate these members in the form of a reduced first payment after we reopen, where the deduction is based on the number of days the member had access to the gym between payments. You will be charged on your usual billing date.
As a result of the closure, some members will receive more than the full value from their last payment before we closed. As such, some members will need to pay a small interim amount on the day that we reopen to cover additional days' worth of membership that will have been accrued before their next regular billing date. This will be a pro-rataed payment of your usual membership fee. You will then be charged your usual fee on your regular billing date thereafter.
All members will be emailed directly with information on their specific payment situation.
Can I freeze my membership for free?
We froze all membership payments when we closed, and will continue to hold payments until we reopen. Once we know when we are reopening, you will be able to freeze your membership for one further month for free.
Are your staff required to wear PPE?
Our employees are required to wear PPE as determined by our risk assessment, that means there are certain activities that require our employees to wear more PPE than others. Our employees are fully trained on when to wear PPE and how to put it on and take it off correctly. When identifying the requirement for PPE we have taken into consideration advice from the Government and national health services, as well as international health services such as the World Health Organisation.
Are members required to wipe down kit after use?
Members are required to wipe down kit after use. If this is ever not the case, a member of the management team will remind them to ensure that we are keeping our hygiene levels high. Our staff also regularly clean the equipment to help this.
How can I ensure that other members aren't too close to me?
We have worked hard to ensure that the new layout of our gyms, the equipment in use and the placement of our cleaning and hand stations are optimal for the gym layout and maintaining a safe distance.
All our equipment follows government guidelines in ensuring that members are a safe distance apart. When taking free weights, we ask members to be conscientious towards other members and respect the social distancing measures that are being enforced. If this is ever not the case, please speak with a member of the team on site who will be more than happy to assist in any way that they can.
How will you keep members safe that are still seen to be higher risk?
We want all our members to feel safe in The Gym. As such, all members must continue to follow the advice of Government and national health services. This includes ‘shielding’ for any vulnerable people, such as those with breathing difficulties, or other medical conditions which can mean that they are at higher risk as a result of COVID-19.
Should you not be able to return to The Gym when we reopen because you are shielding, continue to self-isolate, or do not yet feel ready to come back to us, please do get in touch and we can put your account to ‘frozen’ until you are ready to return.
I require a carer/helper to attend the gym with me due to a medical condition – is this allowed?
We want all our members to feel safe in The Gym. As such, all members must continue to follow the advice of national health services and Government. This includes ‘shielding’ for any vulnerable people, such as those with breathing difficulties, or other medical conditions which can mean that they are at higher risk as a result of COVID-19. Should you be safe to attend the gym and other public places, then this will be acceptable, so long as we are not over capacity as a result.
What is #SafeWithUs, and what does it mean for me as a member?
#SafeWithUs is our commitment to you to keep you safe whilst in our gyms. It covers all the things we have done, are doing and will continue to do to keep you and our gym staff safe whilst in our gyms. It is a set of guidelines and rules that we ask all members and team members to follow whilst in the gym. By doing so, we can ensure that everyone has a safe space to train. You can read more about the Commitment here. The Commitment includes information on cleaning and hygiene, social distancing measures and our new entry measures.
What are the #SafeWithUs cleaning and hygiene measures?
Through our #SafeWithUs cleaning and hygiene measures have increased the regularity of our equipment cleaning. We have also installed new cleaning stations and ask that all our members do their bit, and clean their kit! This means that whenever you have finished using a bit of equipment, please spray it down and wipe it clean with the sanitiser spray and paper towels provided. Finally, we have also installed hand sanitiser dispensers, and ask all members to use these after entering The Gym and also recommend you wash your hands with soap and water regularly too. Both the cleaning equipment and hand sanitisers can be found at our Cleaning Stations. You can read more about #SafeWithUs here.
What are the #SafeWithUs social distancing measures?
The #SafeWithUs social distancing measures allow us to operate The Gym whilst following social distancing guidelines. This means that we require our members to remain a safe distance apart from one another whilst in The Gym. To help with this, we have put reminders throughout, built a one-way system in some areas to help keep people distancing, and have also put some pieces of equipment out of action for a while.
Where possible we have used partition screens to try and keep more equipment in use. To help ensure that all our members can use The Gym safely, we also ask you to try and keep your workouts to 45 minutes. You can read more about the #SafeWithUs commitment here.
What are the #SafeWithUs new entry measures?
To help keep the number of people in The Gym to a safe number, allowing everyone to socially distance and get on the kit that they want, we have also introduced some #SafeWithUs entry measures. This may mean that your PIN won’t work on the entry pod – not to worry, it isn’t broken, it just means that there are too many people inside at that moment in time. As soon as someone leaves, you’ll be allowed in.
We have also introduced touchless entry using a QR code or NFC reader, you can access touchless entry via the app!
We understand some people may also use the pin pad, so we are also committing to regular sanitation of our entry keypads and have provided hand sanitiser just in the entrance so that you can clean your hands before working out.
What are Cleaning Stations and where are they?
Our Cleaning Stations are a new feature in our gyms and provide sanitiser solution and wipes for the equipment, plus hand sanitiser for our members! As part of our #SafeWithUs Commitment, we ask that you use both when in The Gym to help keep the equipment clean and other members safe. Cleaning Stations can be found near the entrance of every gym, and dotted throughout the gym floor too.
Why have I been banned for breaking one of The Gym Rules or one of the #SafeWithUs Commitments?
We have asked all our members to follow and adapt the points in the Commitment, alongside The Gym Rules as part of your membership agreement. Any breach of either component, as with all Member Rules, may result in an immediate ban at the discretion of the manager. Should you feel that you have been treated unfairly, please drop us a message with your PIN and we can discuss this further with the manager on your behalf.
I saw someone breaking one of The Gym Rules / #SafeWithUs Commitments, what should I do?
We have created the #SafeWithUs Commitments to clearly set out the guidelines of what is and isn’t allowed in our gyms whilst social distancing measures are still in place. This also clarifies what we have committed to and requires all members to follow. Our staff are enforcing these measures in a bid to keep our members safe, and request that all members follow these directions. If for whatever reason you see one of the terms of the commitment being breached, we ask that you raise it to a member of staff to deal with at the time of occurrence so that it can be corrected. This must be done in a calm and discrete manner so as to allow for any extenuating circumstances to be taken into account. Please remember that this is a strange time for everyone and we ask that you are considerate to all members.
Raising it at the time will allow us to properly enforce the measures. To allow us to properly manage the situation, we ask that you leave all interactions with other members, and enforcement of the Rules and Commitments to our trained members of staff.
I saw a member of staff breaking one of The Gym Rules / #SafeWithUs Commitments why are they allowed to do this?
Our staff have been properly trained in social distancing measures whilst at work and try and allow a 2 metre gap whenever possible. We ask our members to be conscientious of this also when moving around the gym and choosing equipment, keeping an eye out not only for other members, but also members of staff. Whenever this is not possible, we try and keep this for the shortest possible amount of time, and only when absolutely necessary.
Cleaning and Hygiene
Will paper towels and sanitiser be available for members?
We have installed custom cleaning stations that provide both hand sanitiser for all our members to use on entry, as well as paper towels and sanitiser spray to clean the equipment after use. We ask that all members use the cleaning product to clean the equipment to help reduce the risk of any illnesses being spread.
What are you doing to keep the equipment and facilities clean?
We are working hard to ensure that our hygiene standards are kept to an exceptional level. To achieve this, we have increased the regularity that our facilities and equipment is cleaned, as well as providing more cleaning products for our members to use. This helps ensure that the equipment is regularly cleaned and decontaminated. We also deep clean the gym each evening after we closed so that it is fresh each day.
If ever you feel that this is not the case, we strongly advise that you speak to a member of staff on site who will happily ensure that any issues are sorted.
What if the cleaning products in The Gym are running low?
Our managers are regularly checking stocks of all our cleaning products during this time. If you notice anything missing or running low, please let a member of the team know so that they can ensure it is restocked.
Why do you not have reusable towels to wipe equipment down?
We have provided cleaning products to allow our members to wipe down equipment after use and have requested everyone to do this to help ensure that our hygiene levels remain high. We've opted for single use paper towel as these are more accessible for members and allows us to keep a large supply available.
Why do I have to use paper towels and spray and not a sweat towel to wipe down my equipment?
Due to our commitment to our members, we want to ensure that the gym is a safe place to train. Given the current circumstances we have increased our cleaning and have also provided cleaning products to help members disinfect the kit they’ve been using before another member jumps on it.
In normal circumstances, a towel is more than sufficient to wipe off sweat, but as we are also looking to help prevent the spread of a virus, disinfectant spray and single use wipes are more effective for this.
Use of a sweat towel should currently only be used to wipe sweat off of your body, not from the equipment.
