Look After Yourself
20 July 2012
HEALTH: 'Prevention is better than cure' – this may sound like an age-old adage but these expressions are very often repeated because they have such great value. With a bit of extra care both in and out of the gym, you can help avoid injury and give your body a helping hand fighting off germs and illnesses.
EXERCISE: Always make sure you understand how to use the equipment properly before you begin your workouts: take advantage of an induction and advice from personal trainers so that you use the equipment safely and maximise the benefits of your time in the gym. A few initial sessions may be all you need.
NUTRITION: Garlic has long been considered a medicinal food, with its anti-microbial powers one of the most extensively studied of any food. The key active medicinal constituent is a powerful plant chemical called allicin, which provides a variety of health-giving properties (as well as a delicious taste and aroma). Try adding raw, chopped or pressed garlic to salad dressings or olive oil to take full advantage of the benefits.
