The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 event 15.05.13

The Gym Group was recently recognised as one of the fastest-growing companies in the UK in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100.

At the awards ceremony in London last night The Gym’s CEO, John Treharne, was presented with this prestigious award.

The Sunday Times Top 100 Best Small Companies to Work For 11.03.13

The Gym Group has achieved 15^th place in the prestigious The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For list, the UK’s most extensive research into employee engagement which honours the 100 Best Small Companies to Work For.  Most notably, The Gym Group achieved the top Three Star Accreditation standard, declaring the company an ‘extraordinary’ employer.

The Best Companies survey used a wide range of criteria to measure each of the 896 companies on issues affecting employees in the UK today. These included how employees felt about the head of the company and its senior managers, sharing the company’s values and principles and the balance between their work and home duties.

This achievement follows The Gym Group's success in being ranked no. 13 in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 published in December 2012, which recognised The Gym Group as one of the fastest growing companies. It is also the only group operator in the fitness sector to be accredited by Investors in People, being especially commended for high motivation and energy levels displayed by the staff team.

The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 02.12.12

The Gym Group has been recognised as one of the fastest growing companies in the UK in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 published on 2 December 2012.

By growing sales by 139.8% over the last year the Gym Group was ranked no. 13 in the prestigious publication.

The Gym Group is the only representative from the low-cost health and fitness sector to have achieved this accolade.

Led by John Treharne and a highly experienced management team, the Gym Group has grown revenues from £1.0 million in 2008/9 to £13.5 million last year. The number of fully operational outlets has increased from 1 to 32, delivering high quality facilities and a model that its customers appreciate and is fit for purpose in the current macro-economic climate

The Gym’s unique 24/7, contract free approach, driven by internet booking, has underpinned the Group’s momentum and there are further attractive growth prospects ahead as we continue our roll-out and continue to expand our estate to around 50 units by the end of 2013.

Investors in People 31.08.12

The Gym Group was awarded the prestigious Investors in People accreditation on its first attempt.

Investors in People (IIP) is a national organisation which promotes excellence in employment with the aim of achieving better business. IIP sets very high standards and criteria that must be met for a company to become accredited.

We’re pleased to announce that The Gym Group not only met but exceeded these standards. Our IIP accreditation as the only group operator in the health and fitness sector to receive the award shows that we really care about and look after our people, providing them with a better working life.

The assessment consisted of a team of reviewers who interviewed people from all areas of the operation on a range of topics including learning and development; reward and recognition; leadership and management; and involvement and empowerment.

In the report from IIP, The Gym was praised for its ‘huge motivation and energy levels within the company’ from the top down, creating ‘a wave of positive morale within the business.’

National Fitness Awards 30.11.11

Celebrations are taking place at The Gym Group this week, following the announcement that the brand has been declared ‘Budget Gym of The Year’ at the National Fitness Awards.

More than 600 fitness industry professionals gathered at the prestigious event, held this at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on Friday, November 25, 2011.

John Treharne, CEO of The Gym Group, says: “It is fantastic for all involved that our efforts to deliver affordable, contract-free, 24-hour gym facilities have been recognised. In 2012 we will add at least 15 more sites to the portfolio, helping us to deliver our award winning service to more of the UK population.

“Our concept isn’t about capturing members from our competitors; it’s about attracting a whole new market and getting more people exercising. Offering flexible membership terms allows people to come and go as they please, and attracts those that would normally be put off by lengthy commitments.

“Despite the low price point, the provision of a safe, clean environment supported by helpful, friendly and fully qualified staff remains at the heart of our offering.”

Health Club Awards 22.09.11

The Gym Bristol was awarded gold in the South West category of the Health Club Awards as voted for by members.

The awards are unique in the health industry as winners are decided by members of health clubs who are asked to complete a questionnaire rating their own club on the level of service, facilities and value for money. Over half a million pieces of data were crunched from over 16,000 customers earlier this year.

The exclusive event which took place at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham was attended by 200 guests from shortlisted clubs who learnt their fate from presenter Mark Durden-Smith. Mark addressed the audience saying “these awards are a true reflection of how well you are doing what you do, and whether you are providing Good Value for Money. Your members can be your harshest of critics. They’re the front line, they experience your facilities and customer service on a daily basis and so they’re in a unique position to assess your performance”.
